Starlem é um garotinho de pele morena, olhos pretos e cabelos caracolados tem problema visual e por isso usa óculos de grau, entretanto a mãe não soube dizer o porquê da deficiência. A mãe é separada do pai dele, pois segundo ela sofreu muito maus tratos pelo companheiro sendo obrigada a separar, devido à pobreza extrema sofreu muito na gestação do menino chegou até passar muita fome. Ao nascer o Starlen teve que ser cuidado pelos irmãos, pois sua mãe teve que trabalhar para garantir o sustento da família. A pesar de ser criado com carinho pelos irmãos ele não teve os cuidados necessários que uma criança precisa para se desenvolver saudável, gerando assim algumas deficiências como, problema visual, problema na dicção, ou seja, dificuldade de pronunciar as palavras é uma criança sem motivação para brincar e até correr que é comum de toda criança, dificuldade na aprendizagem. Embora que este é seu primeiro ano na escola, mas, contudo ele apresenta um gosto enorme pela escola. Mas depois que começou a ser assistido pelo convento vem dando passos, pois se relaciona muito bem com as demais crianças. E mesmos com suas dificuldades tem crescido bastante. Quanto o pai depois da separação segundo a mãe não teve mais noticias dele.
A família é composta por 05 pessoas são elas: DaXXXXX de 39 anos domestica e no momento trabalha no convento como prestadora de serviço com um contrato de 06 meses com renda de um salario mínimo R$ XXXX. Seus filhos Danilo de 19 anos, que vive atualmente com a tia paterna, em outra cidade. FrXXXXX de 15 anos que cursa a 6ª série MXXXXX de 09 anos e cursa a 4ª serie ambas do ensino fundamental MXXXX sofre de dores no joelho mas ainda não se sabe a causa das dores. E o nosso pequeno Starlem e tem 06 aninhos.
A casa onde moram é alugada DaXXXXX está em busca de outro lugar para morar, pois a casa está situada em meio a uma favela nas vagens de um riacho rota dos bandidos e principalmente a noite ela e as crianças ficam muito assustadas. Ela paga mensalmente o valor de R$ XXXX, além disto, ainda paga R$ XXXX de energia elétrica Felizmente não precisam pagar a água , a casa é dividida em 06 cômodos um terraço, uma sala onde está o sofá a estante e a tV, dois quartos no primeiro uma cama de casal onde dorme Starlem e MXXXXX e na outra a filha mais velha, no outro quarto dorme DaXXXXX numa cama de casal também tem um guarda roupa para guarda as roupas de toda família . Uma cozinha com um filtro quebrado onde armazenam água de beber um fogão a gás, mas DaXXXXX cozinha num fogão de lenha para economizar o gás e uma pequena mesa onde fazem as refeições. O banheiro está quebrado, ela está sem condições de concerta-lo mesmo quebrado ela continua a usando-o devido não ter outro.
Em meio às dificuldades na vida desta família e principalmente pelo desejo de dar a seu filho uma infância digna, com direito a alimentação e a educação e perspectiva de um futuro diferente da realidade de hoje é que d. DaXXXXX nos procurou e pediu para colocar Starlen no convento. E percebendo a sua necessidade financeira e também a sua dedicação de mãe. É que faço a solicitação que o pequeno Starlen seja apadrinhado.

Starlem is a little boy with brown skin, black eyes and curly hair. He has an eye problem and that is why he has glasses. However, the mother could not give any exact information about the eye problem. The mother is separated from Starlem’s father because she had to suffer a lot from his abuse and therefore separated from him. During Starler’s breastfeeding period, she suffered a lot due to her great poverty and often had to go hungry. After the birth, the siblings had to take care of Starlem because the mother had to work for a living. He was treated with great affection by the siblings, but lacked essential things that a child needs when growing up. Therefore, some obstacles have arisen, such as the eye problem, pronunciation problems and learning problems. He is a child without motivation to play and even not to walk and run as would be normal for a child of his age. Although it is now his first year in school (pre-school year), he shows great interest. Since he is being cared for in the Convento, his situation has already improved a lot. He is making friends with the other children and despite his difficulties he is doing better now. After the separation, the mother never heard from Starlem’s father again.
The family consists of five people: The mother DaXXXXX, 39 years old, is a housewife and currently works in the Convento as a service provider (in the kitchen) with a contract for six months and an income of a legal minimum wage. Their son D. 19 years old, lives with his paternal aunt. Their daughter FrXXXXXX, 15, is in 5th grade and their daughter MXXXXXX, 9, is in 3rd grade. MXXXX has knee problems of unknown cause. And our little Starlem is 6 years old.
The house where the family lives is rented. However, the mother DaXXXXX is currently looking for a new house, because the current house is in a favela near a stream and is an area with many bandits. Especially at night, the family is very scared. They pay XXXX reais a month, and another XXXX reais for electricity. Fortunately, they do not have to pay for drinking water. The house has six subdivisions, which are: a (closed) terrace, a living room with a sofa, shelf and TV, a bedroom for Starlem and MXXXXX, a bedroom for the older daughter and a room with a double bed for the mother and with a wardrobe for all of them together, and a kitchen with a broken water filter, a table and a gas cooker. But the mother usually cooks on an open fire to save gas The bathroom is broken. But since there is no money to repair it, it is used anyway.
In the midst of these family difficulties, and especially to give Starlem a dignified childhood – with the right to nutrition and education – and for a better future, Mother DaXXXX approached us and asked to include Starlem in the Convento programme. We understand the financial difficulties and at the same time the dedication as a mother. So we make the recommendation of a sponsorship for Starlem.

Dia do Dente 1998-2007
On 16 October, more than 3000 children from the municipalities of Lagoa, Silves and Monchique will participate in the 10th edition of “Dia do Dente”.
The activities, which are carried out in primary schools and kindergartens, count on the help of teachers so that children can learn about “healthy teeth” through play.
The organisers of this initiative, dentist Dr Axel Geiger and his assistant Liliana Câmara from a dental clinic in Carvoeiro, with the support of Colgate, have prepared support materials for the little ones, parents and teachers and distributed kits with paste and toothbrush for children.
This project aims to raise oral health awareness among children, parents and teachers. “This awareness is very important,” explains the dentist, “because the general condition of children’s teeth is still poor.”
Good oral hygiene not only gives you healthy teeth to eat, smile and speak with, but also saves you a lot of money on dental care.
